Mastery levels are acquired from successes in a particular skill. One success equals one mastery XP. Obtaining multiple items in a single roll will only give one mastery XP. Having a higher Mastery level will allow you to gather or craft better items.
Information on crafting component mastery and material specific component mastery can be found on the equipment page
Mastery levels also introduce different tiers of items into the game, such as Elder Wheat, Elder Parsley, etc. These higher tier items produce stronger benefits than normal items.
For every item that is gathered or crafted, higher-tiered items will give an extra 5% exp per tier. For example, crafting a Legendary Copper Bar would give an extra 25%, or gathering Elder Mint would give an extra 5% exp. However, they will also increase the difficulty of gathering or crafting that item. Crafting items which do not currently use the dice-roll system will suffer a 5% success penalty per tier.
The Tiers are:
|Tier||Name||Gathering Difficulty||Xp Bonus|
Your gathering and component crafting success depends on the tier of item and your dice rolls. Gathering difficulty is indicated in brackets; for example, Elder Jute means that you will need to roll a 10 or better to get any Elder Jute. "2d6 +0" means that you will roll 2 six-sided dice (1-6), add them, and then add a bonus of 0. "3d6 +1" means that you will roll 3 six-sided dice, add them, and then add a bonus of 1. Every 2 Mastery Levels adds 1 to your bonus, and every 3 Mastery Levels adds 1 die.
Rolling twice (or better) an item's difficulty will give you 2 of it. For example, if you roll 10-14 on Jute, you'll receive 2 Jute. If you rolled 15-19, you'd receive 3 Jute.
Rolling a 6 gives you +5% experience. This stacks additively with itself and the Tier bonuses, so rolling 2 sixes on a Legendary item gives you a total of +35% experience.
This is the table of your dice at each Mastery level.
